From the Principal's Desk
Yogoda Satsanga Mahavidyalaya celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1917, showcasing a glorious journey of educational endeavor.
The college was established in the year 1967 under the aegis of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, a spiritual and charitable organization of worldwide repute. It has been the grace and blessings of the society’s founder and Guru Sri Sri ParamahansaYogananda upon the college and its stakeholders that the college has been performing fairly well since its inception. The college was first started in the YSS Ashram campus and has now its own 11 acre campus at the prime location of the state capital of Jharkhand at a distance of merely 500 meters from the upcoming High Court campus and just 1 km from the upcoming State Legislative Assembly.
The college is a co-education institution catering to the educational needs of students coming from all walks of life. The institution is a religious minority institution with secular outlook, presently offering degree and intermediate (separate wings) education in traditional as well as vocational courses. Students are imparted not only quality education but also the values and life-skills so that they may transform themselves into the valuable assets for the nation. The college pays special attention to the economically weaker sections of the society by way of financial assistance. Differently-abled students are treated with care, availing themselves of financial and academic aids etc during their course of stay.
The college is growing fast and has plans to start Post-Graduation courses in most of the subjects offered at present. To start with, the college has already been sanctioned the affiliation for the Post-Graduation courses in Commerce from academic year 2017-18 onwards. We hope to start more post graduation courses soon. The college is also committed to starting add-on courses in the subjects like Computer Application, Office Administration and Retail Management through which students may pursue these courses simultaneously with their regular degree program, increasing opportunities for employment.
The college adheres to the core values of National Education Policy, NAAC (B++ grade with 2.89 CGPA in 1917) and the parent society frames policies, rules and regulations in parlance with them. Students of the institution are reaching diverse avenues setting new benchmarks with every passing year. The institution ensures optimum facilities for students and is committed to raising the quality parameters within the institution to new and unexplored horizons with time. The IQAC of the college is continuously working on ensuring and benchmarking quality parameters.
The college believes in overall growth of students and ensures that Co-curricular and Extra-Curricular events go hand in hand with the curriculum. Students of the Mahavidyalaya have fared reasonably well in sports, cultural activities etc. not only in the local circuits but at National Level. YOGA is regularly conducted on campus and it is a heartening fact that 8 of our students are presently working abroad as Yoga Instructors in countries like China, Vietnam etc.
Our Alumni are working in different capacity not only throughout the nation but across the globe. Life at Yogoda is and will always remain a different experience to be cherished for the lifetime.
In the previous academic year many positive changes have taken place in the college, in spite of Covid 19. These are listed as follows:
• YSM has adapted to online teaching, learning, and evaluation in big way.
• IT Cell has provided Web based ERP/e-college, that will enable recording and overseeing the academic and also, administrative activities in automated manner.
• Program based budgeting, which was started in AY-2018-19, has now totally evolved, enabling awared allocation of resources for the academics, operational and capital purposes.
• Finance and management matrices, clearly defining financial and administrative authorisations have further added to the clarity in governance structures.
• The role and charter of various committees being shared herewith through e-college enhanced accountability and efficiency in the College operations.
• Admission portal activation and its full development have eased the delays of the earlier manual system. Similarly, examination fee counter is also automated through Ranchi University.
• Issue of TC and migration certificate has also gone online.
• Dedicated Campus management system to provide responsive support, same is the case for IT Support through IT Cell. Faculty and Staff can raise their issues/ support/requests through online ticket generating facility called SAMADHAAN. This will avoid needless personal interactions.
• Automation of library (RFID), Online UPS and creation of Digi hut, starting of student bus service are some more projects being worked upon. New administrative block and more classrooms construction under RUSA grant are also being actively progressed.
• Faculty Learning and Development Cell; GYANODAYA has been set up as adjunct to the college academic council.
• In the e-college, each faculty has been allocated its own page, where they are expected to upload all their academic, co-curricular, extracurricular and other assignments details to provide automated data for IQAC, self-evaluation andoversight of HOD and Principal.
The College is now well poised to take on triple challenges of post COVID era, NAAC-22 and new education policy (NEP) in its stride.
